When looking the Dome over the green theater in the Villa Tavernaccia garden, you’ll notice that this masterpiece of architecture (1420 1436) is unaccomplished.
The external decoration of the octagonal drum at the base of the Dome, is present only in one of its eight sides.
When Baccio d’Agnolo, who was commissioned to make a marble gallery by the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore finished his first segment, he asked for Michelangelo’s opinion. But after he coldly compared it to a “cricket cage”, the project came to a halt never to be resumed.
